If attacked with a knife the victim can decide to flee or resist if they have no choice. When resisting one must neutralize or disarm the assailant. Most times a knife will be aimed at the face or thrust at the neck or chest. In this article we will show three martial arts techniques to defend against a knife attack.
If the attacker has the knife in their right hand in the victim’s face. Open the eyes wide as if scared. This can disrupt their thought processing. At the same time raise both hands slowly. With the heel of the right hand hit the heel of knife hand. At the same time hit the knuckles of the knife hand with the left hand. Drive the knife toward the assailant’s chest with full force. With enough force they can be driven backwards to the ground.
If the knife is thrust underhand toward the defenders body. Straighten the arms and put the hands together with the thumbs overlapping. Catch the knifing hand on the wrist or forearm above the knife. With the knife and the arm controlled use a kicking martial arts technique to disable them.
If the knife is brought down from above. Straighten the arms and put the hands together with the thumbs overlapping. Catch the knifing hand on the wrist or forearm below the knife. With the arm controlled over the head a simple turn bringing their arm across the shoulder can dislocate their elbow.
Many times one will be cut or stabbed in a knife attack. A victim cannot stop resisting if injured. The attacker must be neutralized or defeated. Continue the defense until a self-defense technique disables the assailant or escape is possible.
