Fendi Collection Fashion Show Opens Milan Fashion Week

Milan Fashion Week opened with a fashion show presented by the Italian fashion house, Fendi, who took style inspiration from the late Karl Lagerfeld on Wednesday (23/2/2022) local time. Fendi’s creative director, Kim Jones, said the inspiration came after he saw jewelry designer Delfina Delettrez wearing her mother’s old Memphis-print blouse.

Jones himself worked with Delettrez’s mother and Silvia Venturini Fendi, the founders of the Rome-based Fendi brand. He specifically adapted two collections designed by Lagerfeld, namely Fendi’s Spring/Summer 1986 and Autumn/Winter 2000. Jones redesigned the prints and styles of his predecessors.

“The best place to browse the Fendi archives is through the Fendi ‘wardrobe’. And this is a collection that, while dating from the past, feels still relevant,” Jones said, quoted by Reuters on Thursday (24/2/2022).

Model Bella Hadid opened the Fendi fashion show wearing a pale pink chiffon slip dress, teamed with a fur jacket and long green cashmere gloves. At Milan Fashion Week, designer Jones presented collections in chiffon and wool, including see-through tops, trousers and jumpsuits, complemented by embellishments or wavy patterns.

The models also wore plaid trousers, high-waisted skirts, and corset-like shirts. In addition, there are also jackets that look like they have been cut, slim pants, and belts with pockets.

“These are clothes designed for every aspect of a woman’s life, for every generation. And all that inspiration started when I saw the clothes that Delfina was wearing,” said Jones.

As for accessories, Venturini Fendi marks 25 years of the Baguette bag by displaying it again in cashmere, sheepskin (shearling) and mink fur. Milan Fashion Week runs from February 23 to 28.

This fashion week is held after the recent New York and London Fashion Week moments. Apart from Fendi, most brands are performing live this season, including Prada, Versace, Giorgio Armani and Dolce & Gabbana.
